blue & yellow

When words fail and the voice fails: let colours speak!

The colours for democracy and self-determination

Blue and yellow are the national colours of Ukraine and many other countries. The yellow stars of the European Union shine on a blue background. Since the military attack on Ukraine, blue and yellow have symbolised the threat to democracy and sovereignty. Since then, these colours have stood for the fragility of peace and freedom, but also for the rights, integrity and self-determination of all peoples across Europe and the world.

Blue and yellow are also omnipresent in our lives. Our initiative project “blue-and-yellow” would like to draw attention to this with photographs. The scenes on them do not even have to be symbolic. And yet they act as a two-coloured "remind me": of what is happening in Ukraine and what is put at stake by this Russian attack. Therefore, blue-and-yellow also sees itself as a message of solidarity to the people in Ukraine and elsewhere whose lives and right to self-determination are in danger.

Join in

Our initiative thrives on participation and your photographs. Because even if words fail and the voice fails, we don't have to fall silent, but can speak with pictures and these two colours. Therefore, email us your favourite scene or snapshot with the colours blue and yellow. Then we can publish them here. Thank you very much.

Help with your donation and a photography

With your donation to the UNHCR and a photograph you support the refugees. At the same time, it is your personal contribution against the decreasing public attention for the war and the fate of the people in Ukraine. This is how you support our initiative: If you would like to donate directly to the UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, you can find all further information about the UN's humanitarian work here.

Thank you very much if you pass on our idea or if you donate directly to the UNHCR. Then we will have achieved our goal: to help people who are in need through no fault of their own. One more request, please let us know about your donation, so that we can all see what we are achieving together with blue-and-yellow.

How you can get involved

If you would like to participate, please send us your photo that reflects our blue and yellow idea. Please email it as a jpg-file in 150 dpi resolution: maximum edge length 1000 px, maximum file size 1 MB.

By sending us a photo for publication, you declare that the photo/file is your property and that it does not infringe any copyrights of other persons.*
